With a generous grant from Feile, the Donnelly Cup made a triumphant return on Saturday June 18th at Notre Dame High School. Featuring eleven Under-7 Gaelic football teams and four U-7 hurling clubs from Boston to New York, the day-long tournament was hosted by our own St Patrick’s GAA Club whose members did everything from manning a mobile kitchen, line out fields, referee games and so much more.
Established in loving memory of Kim and Tim Donnelly, this event is a reminder of their love of children and sport. Special thanks to: the Donnelly family for presenting the Donnelly Cup and offering words of encouragement to all the young Gaelic footballers and Hurlers present, Art and Connie Began for piping in the players, Jim O’Donnell for his inspirational words on how much this tradition means to the Fairfield Irish community, Con O’Halloran who manned the PA System all day, Jude Fitzgerald and the Town of Fairfield for goalposts, Sacred Heart University for grill masters, Tommy Flaherty for his guidance on food, and all the St Patrick’s members who generously donated their time to make this all a terrific success for the Irish community.
And last, but certainly not least ~Congratulations to our own St Patrick’s U7 tournament and coach Darrah Murphy (Co. Mayo) for capturing the C Division in a thrilling final.
