John Brannelly

John Brannelly grew up in the Gaelic American Club as his father was the Club’s first Irish-American president. John’s grandfather Patrick Brannelly, one of the early proponents of the club, was born in Ballygar, County Galway and John has visited his family homestead still owned by his cousin. His paternal grandfather, Mark Gildea, MD, family was from County Roscommon. John is the youngest of eight children of the late Jeanne and John M. Brannelly.

John is a longtime member of the Greater Bridgeport St. Patrick’s Day Celebration Committee and was Chairperson 2018-2021 and now its Financial Secretary. He has been a member of AOH since 1994. John was a DJ of the “Irish Hour” on WVOF, Fairfield University’s radio station, prior to COVID. From 2002 to 2015 he lived in San Diego, yet continued his membership in the Club.

John was a fundraising and public relations professional for many charities helping raise millions of dollars for Clearity, American Cancer Society, United Way, YMCA, and others. John now works for the City of New Haven after earning his Master of Public Health degree. He is a graduate of Fairfield Prep, St. Bonaventure and Southern Connecticut State University. John was an officer of the Town of Fairfield Fire Commission supporting Fairfield’s bravest.
